Alabama native BENJAMIN SOUTH is a singing-actor and teacher specializing in crossover performance & pedagogy. Recently, he has performed in staged works and recitals with the Tennessee Valley Arts Association, Music on Site, Eklund Opera, Central City Opera, and the Seagle Festival. Notable roles include Preacher (FAITH) Charlie (BRIGADOON), Sam (SUSANNAH), Birdlace (DOGFIGHT), Teague (COLD MOUNTAIN), and Laurie (Adamo's LITTLE WOMEN). He is active in premiering song cycles & staged works and frequently performs as a concert soloist, music director, and collaborative pianist.
Benjamin maintains a robust private studio teaching & coaching clients throughout the United States. Additionally, he is an active researcher, lecturer, and presenter with previous & upcoming engagements at the University of Maryland and the NATS National Conference. In 2026, Benjamin was selected as one of sixteen early-career teachers to participate in the prestigious NATS Intern Program. Benjamin's credits as music director, piano-conductor, conductor, assistant music director, or assistant conductor include: HADESTOWN, THE SOUND OF MUSIC, WAITRESS (amateur world premiere), THE TURN OF THE SCREW, THE PROM, OKLAHOMA, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, THE WIZARD OF OZ, THE DROWSY CHAPERONE, HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL, DARE TO DREAM, and 13 THE MUSICAL. He is currently a doctoral candidate at CU Boulder and holds degrees & certificates from New York University, Ohio University, the University of North Alabama, and Estill International. Beginning in August, Benjamin will be serving as Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre at Florida Southern College. |
